Taking a Break for Mental Health and Healing

How and why to spend time with yourself

It’s good to take breaks when we are diligently pursuing our healing journey. Rest is an important part of healing.

When we go nonstop we aren’t aware of what’s going on inside our hearts and minds. It is in the stillness that we hear from our inner selves. We need to make time every once in a while to listen to our hearts and know how we are doing.

When we are afraid to slow down and listen that is a sign we are using activity to shut off our emotions. I know I do this often as a coping mechanism. Coping mechanisms are like band-aids for the problems we face.

We have to be brave enough to go into the stillness and listen to what we need. Go into stillness without any intention of finding the next thing to work on. Practice being still and quiet. If there is something you should know it will come to you and you can note it down later. Here are some ways to help you slow down and embrace a moment of quiet.

Helpful hint: Sometimes when we are used to continuously going so we don’t feel things it can be extremely uncomfortable to be still. I find it is easier to do a physical activity to help with the anxiety. As you become more accustomed to a practice of stillness it will become easier.
