Single Moms Facing a Future Empty Nest

What will you do when all the kids are grown and gone?

Have you ever thought far enough into your future to imagine your life as a single mom when all your children have grown up and left your home? Or are you too busy taking care of children, working, and making all the pieces come together to think about it?

I recently looked over a list of dreams and goals I wrote for myself a few years ago. As I looked at the goal writing prompt which was to envision your life thirty years later I realized I was way off the mark.

Most of my goals included my children as minors still living with me. Seems I only thought ten years into the future not twenty or thirty years when my children will all be grown and on their own. Well, now I have to make a whole new vision for my future.

I was left feeling empty about what I am going to do when my kids were gone.

I realized that I need to live my life now for my future and what I want to be doing when I have an empty nest.

The only time I’ve really thought about my kids leaving home was when I was married. I thought I would have time to travel and enjoy life with my spouse. Things did not go according to my plans.
